Powered by NYC Service, the Mayor’s catalyst, convenor, and capacity-builder for nonprofits and volunteers in the city, the NYC Impact Community has led the pack in terms of scale, collaboration, and innovation. From an ambitious growth plan that examined community challenges borough by borough to identify needs that service years could address, to a first-of-its kind Service Year Leadership Council made up of programs across the city jointly fundraising to seed and accelerate the growth of programs across the community — NYC Service is a leader in cross-program and cross-sector collaboration to make a service year an opportunity for all.
NYC Service Year is a citywide movement led by the NYC Service Year Leadership Council to promote, sustain and grow service year programming in NYC, which engages young adults in service to their city, empowering their individual growth and civic leadership while delivering measurable change.

How service years have/will help your community address local challenges:
"Service year programs in NYC change the lives of the many people they serve. Communities that are often forgotten or are broadcast in a negative light receive the help they need, as well as renewed hope." - Uthman Olowa, New York Public Ally 2017-2018, Member of the NYC Service Year Member Council
How working with Service Year Alliance/being a member of the Impact Community Network has been helpful
“Being a member of Service Year Alliance’s Impact Community initiative has enabled us to connect with a national network of peers to share best practices and brainstorm ideas for how to promote, sustain, and grow service year programming in New York City and across the country. Furthermore, Service Year Alliance’s technical assistance and thought partnership has been a tremendous asset to our local work and a big contributor to our success.”
- Christy Venable, NYC National Service Support Director, NYC Service - Office of the Mayor
