Alums

Service year alums are a powerful network of individuals who have served that support and equip one another to get things done so that all people can thrive in strong communities. The Service Year Alums network is diverse and composed of AmeriCorps Alums, Returned Peace Corps Volunteers, YouthBuild alums, and alums from various service year programs across the country.

How We Support Service Year Alums

In 2023, Service Year Alliance is prioritizing three bodies of work related to service year alums: data, communications, and elevating alum voices.

Data
We need better data on who serves, where they serve, and what they do after their service year. Although Service Year Alliance owns AmeriCorps Alums, we do not have access to this information, and the entire service year field is lacking critical information that can support their programs, recruitment, and storytelling efforts. While we continue to work on this challenge with AmeriCorps directly, we are also moving forward on other key actions that will support the field. Service Year Alliance will work closely with state service commissions and service year programs to connect their current corps members and recent alums to ServiceYear.org. We have the technology and platform in place that will make it easier for programs to maintain data on their alums — and best recruiters — on ServiceYear.org.

Communication
Service Year Alliance is committed to engaging with sector leaders to collect the most relevant and helpful resources and will share this information in quarterly communications with our growing network of alums through our new newsletter, "The Alums Corner: The Scoop After Service".

Are you an AmeriCorps alum or service year alum? Be the first to receive the latest “scoop after service” with news, resources, job opportunities, tips, and more by signing up as an alum on ServiceYear.org.

Leadership & Representation
After acquiring AmeriCorps Alums in 2018, Service Year Alliance created the Alumni Chapter Steering Committee — a group of nine diverse service year alums who represented the voices and perspectives of alums and alum chapters across the country. While this group's engagement has come to an end, we are forever grateful for their contributions to our mission and to service year alums nationwide.

In order to continue to lift up alum voices in our work, Service Year Alliance is recruiting five diverse service year alums to join our Leadership Council and spearhead our newly created Alums Committee. We will engage with these leaders on a regular basis, and they will inform and advise our work with service year alums as well as our recruitment, policy, impact, and thought leadership efforts. Several Alumni Chapter Steering Committee members continue to engage with this work as part of the Alumni Committee of our Leadership CouncilWe look forward to announcing this full slate of leaders in 2023.
