Service Year Alliance Releases Statement in Response to Receiving Contribution from MacKenzie Scott

Service Year Alliance was included among the 286 organizations that MacKenzie Scott supported with her $2.7 billion in giving

WASHINGTON, DC (June 23, 2021) – Last week, in a Medium post entitled “Seeding by Ceding,” MacKenzie Scott announced $2.7 billion in philanthropic giving to 286 organizations across the country, including Service Year Alliance. Service Year Alliance released the following statement in response to this generous contribution:

“It is an honor to be among the 286 organizations that MacKenzie Scott has chosen to support and entrusted with her contribution and confidence. This generous donation will provide a substantial boost to Service Year Alliance’s work to make a service year a common expectation and opportunity for all young Americans.

Through national service, a generation of young people can transform their lives, strengthen our communities, and fuel much-needed civic renewal in America. National service ensures community voices are at the forefront of responding to COVID, fighting climate change, supporting racial justice, and rebuilding our economy for the 21st century.

At a time when America is desperate for experiences that unite us rather than divide us, this contribution can help us reimagine what it means to serve our country and in turn, harness the energy of the next generation to come together through national service.”

About Service Year Alliance
Service Year Alliance is working to make a year of paid, full-time service — a service year — a common expectation and opportunity for all young Americans. To achieve our mission, Service Year Alliance develops and documents evidence in priority focus areas to persuade decision makers to increase public and private investments in the service year ecosystem. We build coalitions and foster strategic corporate, community, and research partnerships and develop service year programs and resources in priority focus areas to strengthen the case for service years. We advance policy proposals that unlock public funds for service years to create the opportunity for all young Americans to serve. We elevate service years as an experience that transforms lives, strengthens communities, and fuels civic renewal. Finally, we manage ServiceYear.org, a technology platform that matches those who want to serve with paid service year opportunities. Learn more at ServiceYearAlliance.org.
