Kristie Munson
Maine

Kristie first served with Knowledge to Empower Youth to Success (KEYS) Service Corps AmeriCorps providing underserved Pittsburgh children access to books and educational materials. She continued her service in the Peace Corps as an agriculture volunteer in Tanzania, then again as an AmeriCorps VISTA leader assisting VISTA members and Indigenous community members in the development of food sovereignty plans.

Her appreciation for the ways AmeriCorps can get things done encouraged her to create new opportunities for members through the development of an AmeriCorps VISTA program across New York state for a food access nonprofit and hosting members from a State/National AmeriCorps program to help an urban park system address invasive species. Her service journey helped her discover her passion as an environmental educator which led to her becoming the District Educator with the Cumberland County Soil and Water Conservation District in Maine where she teaches people of all ages about environmental challenges and sustainable landscaping.

When Kristie is not in classrooms or out in the field, you can usually find her playing roller derby, trudging around in the woods, gardening, or curled up with her three cats.
