For Immediate Release:
SERVICE YEAR ALLIANCE LAUNCHES IN NYC FOLLOWING PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION
November 15, 2016 - Yesterday, Service Year Alliance gathered leaders from our nation’s top companies, philanthropies, nonprofits and higher education institutions, as well as service year corps members, high school and college students at ArtBeam in New York City to launch the next chapter of the service year movement. The organization announced its plans to grow the number of service years in America from 65,000 annually to 100,000 by 2019 and one million within a generation, as it seeks to make the experience a common expectation and common opportunity for young Americans of all backgrounds.
On November 14, 2016, Service Year Alliance launched the next chapter of the service year movement in front of a crowd of 350 partners, supporters, and service year corps members and alumni.
The event featured exciting announcements and speakers from some of our nation’s top companies, philanthropists, nonprofits, higher education institutions and more — all coming together in pursuit of our shared vision: when a service year is a common expectation and opportunity for all young Americans.
Earlier this month I had the privilege of representing Service Year Alliance at two of Campus Compact’s Civic Action Planning Institutes. Here's a recap from those institutes and how Service Year Alliance hopes to play a role in advancing the public purposes of higher education.
